DREIS RANTS, 8/22/2011….RIVALRIES

Rivalries are based amongst a variety of factors, be it geographic proximity or teams facing each other frequently when the stakes are high, to name a couple.  A couple of months ago I wrote that while the Giants are our main rivals, the Phillies had not been so brotherly towards us either.  So now, I bring up tonights opponent, the St. Louis Cardinals .  Since 2004, the Cardinals have owned the Dodgers in the regular season with a 35-16 mark, 21-5 in St. Louis, including tonights exciting come from behind win 2-1.  ( Aaron Miles has played a big role in the 9th inning in both our wins against the Cards this season, both in the come from behind form )  .  Both teams have almost 250 years of  history in the majors and have a combined 16 World Series titles amongst each other, with St. Louis owning 10 of those, the most in the National League.  Both teams have also inflicted their share of heartaches amongst each other and it’s loyal fans, especially in post season play.  Amongst these moments are 2 of the darkest days of my childhood as a Dodger fan and one the most exciting game I ever been to.  Oh yeah, these are all post-season games, so you may already know which games I will be reflecting on.  So here goes….

MY 2 DARKEST CHILDHOOD DAYS AS A DODGER FAN

With both teams tied at 2 games a piece in the best of 7 NLCS and the score tied at 2 in the bottom of the 9th, Ozzie Smith, who had never homered from the left side of the plate, had to pick this moment to go yard from the left side of the dish, and the folks of St Louie WENT CRAZY FOLKS….
