Ok, so the play of the Lakers, coupled with the Dodgers off-season moves, or lack thereof, hasn’t exactly been so rosy.
However, come Friday, when we ring in the New Year, the Lakers will be the first NBA team to participate in the Rose Parade. The Lakers will be the second professional sports franchise in Los Angeles to participate in the Rose Parade, alongside the Dodgers, who celebrated their 50th anniversary in Los Angeles with a float of their own in 2008. Here are some pics I snapped at the post Rose Parade float viewing…
Paying Tribute to Jackie
Recently the Dodgers announced that a statue of Jackie Robinson will be on display at Dodger Stadium. This will be the first statue at Dodger Stadium that will honor a former Dodger great. Jackie, who grew up in Pasadena, has a sculpture of him along with his brother Mack located across the street from Pasadena City Hall, for you Dodger fans and those coming in from out of town for the Rose Parade or Rose Bowl. The sculpture’s are located 2 blocks north of Colorado Blvd. along the Rose Parade route on 95 Garfield Ave.
9th Inning…R.I.P. Dave Henderson
Dave Henderson and Rich Gedman, moments after Hendu’s home run off Angels reliever Donnie Moore gave the Red Sox a one-run lead in Game 5 of the 1986 ALCS. The Red Sox would win 7-6 in 11 innings. ( Reed Saxon/AP)
One of my favorite non-Dodger baseball moments would come on October 12, 1986. The Angels, up 3 games to 1 on the Red Sox in the 1986 ALCS, we’re one strike away from their first World Series Appearance, when this happened…
Though the Angels would tie the game in the home 9th, Hendu would come through in extras with a sac-fly to send the ALCS back to Boston, which the Red Sox would eventually win.
With the Dodgers finishing the ’86 season with their worst record since 1967 and most of my classmates switching their allegiances, as a 12 year old kid, that home run gave me great such great joy and the look on my classmates faces that next day was priceless. A lot of those same classmates of mine would switch back to The Blue two years later… R.I.P Dave Henderson. You will be missed. A tribute from the teams he donned uni’s for, including the Red Sox…
