The Trade Talks Continue…Paying Tribute to Vin Against MLB’s Wishes…

screenshot_2016-07-26-19-48-22.png (Snapchat @good_drei)

Chris Archer may be the Tampa Rays ace for the time being, but talks of acquiring him via trade still loom, as well as possibly giving up our top pitching prospect Julio Urias for White Sox ace Chris Sale. The Blue has also shown interest in acquiring some lumber, looking at the the Reds Jay Bruce as well as Rockies outfield Carlos Gonzalez, the latter of which the Dodgers have plenty of familiarity with.

A Double Standard Here Huh ?

The same people who run Cut4 are the same people who are threatening Puig with a  $5,000 fine if he should have THE NERVE to sport the WIN FOR VIN cleats. A double standard here huh considering the shoutout from those at MLB. Wasn’t it also last year when Yoenis Cespedes sported a yellow armband to call upon a parakeet?

Drei’s Sunday Tale…A SUN-DAY FUN-DREI With Kid N Drei

picsart_07-13-02.46.28.jpgThe animated ones just love spending a nice sunny, SUN-DAY FUN-DREI with their favorite Dodger fan, Kid Marley Marlz…

On this final Sunday before the All-Star Break, Kid has this great idea that Kid N Drei catch one more game before the break. Who is Drei to argue. I mean, Kid N Drei haven’t had a chance to catch too many games together this year.  After all, though Kid N Drei may be kids at heart, but like anything and everything, life does occasionally get in the way. The tales from Kid N Drei may not be as frequent this year, but hey, that’s not to say Kid N Drei ain’t enjoying bringing you this tale, On this…SUN-DAY, FUN-DREI !!!

wp-1468732915826.jpeg

No matter what day of the week it is, even if it’s not a SUN-DAY FUN-DREI, Minion Dave always seems to be happy. Adrian Gonzalez, ready to bat in the home 5th, has seen his power numbers go down this year. Though his average is still up there, to this point A-Gon had only 6 home runs coming to this AB. Does Kid N Drei’s lucky Pet Minion Dave bring A-Gon some good vibes ? Hey Kid! You know how you once said we make magic together. Let’s see if our pet Minion Dave can help bring some of that magic toward A-Gon…

Looks like we got those magic vibes working from the LFP…

wp-1468734819528.jpeg

Minion Dave sure enjoyed that blast from A-Gon…

wp-1468735106705.jpeg The Kid admiring A-Gon’s presence as well…

wp-1468735257695.jpeg That’s right Kid! A-Gon is a BEAST !!!

That A-Gon blast would finish the scoring for the day as The Blue would close out the 1st half with a 3-1 win over the Padres. Do Kid N Drei, and Company, continue to bring more magic and good vibes to The Ravine as we head toward the 2nd half? Stay tuned…’Til the Next Episode…

9th Inning…Keeping It Blue

picsart_07-12-09.01.55.jpg

Notes on a Scorecard…Closing Out The First Half…

As the first half of the season came to a close, after going a little more than a month without setting foot inside Dodger Stadium, or a MLB stadium for that matter, I made it back to The Ravine. In a span of 8 days, I caught 4, kept score for 3. The 4th game, that will be a SUN-DAY, FUN-DREI tale from Kid N Drei.

Speaking of tales, the last time Drei kept score, my Notes on a Scorecard feature was, for one day renamed, Drei’s Tales From a Scorecard. Hey, when you’re keeping score for 17 innings, you come up with more than just notes…

Sunday 7/3/2016 vs. Colorado…

In the home 1st our rookie sensation Corey Seager would extend his hitting streak to 17 games…

Brandon McCarthy, making his first start in over a year, strikes out 8 Rockies in 5 innings…

Though the Blue would end up sweeping the Rockies, Puig would yet be involved in another base running gaffe, this time in the 4th inning. If you check Yasmani Grandal’s 4th inning AB, it will say a popout 5-4 DP. Of course, it would involve Puig…

As for Grandal, he would atone for the unusual P 5-4 DP with this solo shot in the 7th…

It’s not often one gets asked to atone for a P5-4 DP  is it ? Grandal would have another huge night 5 days later…

Dodgers 4 Rockies 1

Tuesday 7/5/2016 vs. Orioles

With the Orioles in town for the first time since 2004, this would be the 27th team I’ve seen the Blue play at The Ravine. Once the Twins and Royals come through, which may be awhile, I’ll be able to say that I saw the other 29 at The Ravine…

On this night, Kenta Maeda wasn’t exactly sharp. He would battle his way out of trouble, until the top 5th, when Orioles slugger Manny Machado would do damage…

That 3 run shot would be the difference as the O’s would snap a 5 game losing streak with their first regular season win at Dodger Stadium…

Oriole 4 Dodgers 1

Other streaks that we’re snapped… Corey Seager’s 19 game hitting streak…The Dodgers 9 game home winning streak as well as their own 5 game winning streak…

For some reason, the Black and Orange on the Orioles doesn’t elicit such evil hatred…

OH Say Does That Star Spangled Banner Yet Wave…

Orioles fans bringing a Baltimore anthem tradition inside The Ravine…

Thursday 7/7 vs Padres

Unlike Brandon McCarthy, Hyun Jin Ryu’s first start of the season was anything but memorable, surrendering 6 runs in only 4 2/3 innings. Ryu would strike out 4, but this solo shot by Melvin Upton Jr. may have been a sign of things to come…

We would not know this at the time, but this would be Drew Pomeranz’s final game on the hill for the Padres, as he would toss 7 scoreless while limiting the Blue to 2. It’s that time of year folks where teams look to bolster their rosters for the stretch run. Too bad he couldn’t bolt for Boston soon enough. With the Red Sox coming to town next month, we just may see him yet again…

Padres 6 Dodgers 0

So this 3 game stretch  featured some firsts ( McCarthy’s and Ryu’s first starts, the Orioles first regular season win at Dodger Stadium ) a lot of work put in by our bullpen, and last ( Pomeranz’s last game as a Padre… ) and last but not least, a return of Kid N Drei…

I have no idea why Kid N Drei decided to go all hipster on this Thursday night… Perhaps SUN-DAY, FUN-DREI will have a better ending ?

Dreis 1st Half Thoughts…

At 51-40 and 6.5 games back, the Dodgers are actually on pace for 91 wins. For all the injuries to our rotation and our offensive inconsistencies, if I we’re to give Dave Roberts a mid-season grade i’d say he’d get a solid B. With the acquisition of Bud Norris and the return of Brandon McCarthy and Hyun Jin Ryu, our rotation may have gone from one of the thinnest to one of the deepest. When Kershaw comes back from the DL it will be interesting to see who goes to the ‘pen. I said prior to the season the Dodgers would win 91 games en route to a 4th straight NL West crown. Will it be enough to overtake the hated ones ? Let the 2nd half begin…

9th Inning…Kid N Drei

Oh the things we do when The Blue is having a long night. Even our pet Minion Dave doesn’t look so happy…

Extra Innings…Late Night Bites with Kid N Drei

Kid N Drei with the Big Bites from Fat Sal’s… ( Never again Kid is Drei doing “Hipster Thursday”…LOL )

Drei’s Game 5 Thoughts… Looking Back at Winner Take All’s… A Pre-Game 5 Tale From Kid N Drei

Leading Off, In the Junior Circuit…

Congratulations to both the Toronto Blue Jays and the Kansas City Royals on advancing to the ALCS. Both teams had we’re on the brink of elimination with the Blue Jays rallying from an 0-2 series deficit to come back and win their series against the Texas Rangers. Their epic Game 5 saw a crazy 7th inning, capped off by this 3 run homer by Jose Bautista

Unlike Toronto, there would be no such drama in Kansas City as the Royals advanced to the ALCS for the second straight yearknocking out the Astros 7-2 behind 8 strong innings from Johnny Cueto, holding the Astros to two hits and two runs. Kansas City will have the home field over Toronto in a rematch of the 1985 ALCS.

Drei’s AL Thoughts… Big Flipping Deal ?

During that wild 7th inning in Toronto, you may have witnessed that ” sick ” bat flip by Jose Bautista. I really thought it was great given what was at stake. With so much riding on this game and series, emotions fly high. This really is no different than if a wide receiver scores a go-ahead touchdown with under a minute to go in a playoff game. On another note, while Jose Bautista is receiving well-deserved praise, at the same time, I don’t want to hear one more word if a certain Cuban Missile comes through with a clutch home run from this point on in the playoffs.

The Blue in Winner Take All Games…1981 and 1988

In 1981, the Blue would find themselves in 2 winner take all games, both times coming away winners en route to the World Series and an eventual World Title against the Yankees. The Blue have been in other winner take all games as well, their last coming in 1988 against, yup, the New York Mets. We all remember what happened in that memorable 7th game in ’88 with the Bulldog on the hill that evening…

The losing pitcher for the Mets, some current analyst for TBS, Ron Darling…. ( Withholding comment…)

OK, how ’bout one more trip down memory lane Dodgers fans…

gibson-hershiser Captain Kirk and The Bulldog…

Drei’s Thoughts Going to Game 5

Both teams will be throwing their ace out there so runs will once again be at a premium with Jacob deGrom matching up against our very own Zack Greinke. deGrom will be given the task of defeating two aces within less than a week in a pressure packed game. Zack is 10-1 at Dodger Stadium this season with a minuscule 1.46 ERA. Getting runners on base will be a huge key. Look for both teams to run more than usual to force the action. Each run will be huge. Only a trip to the NLCS is at stake, that’s all ? My Pick ? C’mon on now ? Do I really have to tell you ? All personal bias aside, I do expect a really close low-scoring affair…

Drei’s SUN-DAY FUN-DREI Ballpark Tale From The Ravine… A Birthday Tale With Kid Marly Marlz

Spring Training…Leading Off…

They don’t call me DodgerDrei for no reason, for DodgerDrei is always happy to spend some quality time with his newborn niece Toia. After all, it’s always good to start ’em young, right ?

32 And Still a Kid…

Featuring, As Always…

Marlz_Bday PicThe Birthday Boy… The Kid At Heart…KID MARLY MARLZ !!!

Tonight’s number…

Dodgers_32What could possibly be a better place to celebrate a birthday than at Chavez Ravine ? Especially against the hated ones ?

The night would start and end on top of The Ravine by the number 32, the number once worn by Dodger legend Sandy Koufax . The idea of doing a Dodger themed birthday based around a retired number was actually suggested to me by another buddy of mine.

Toia_Uncle Drei Toia: ” Uncle Drei, does that mean when I turn 1, you’re going to throw me a Dodger themed birthday ? “

Pee Wee Reese

Drei: You know Toia, when your Uncle Drei does throw you your first Dodger birthday, some storyteller named Vin will be talking about what a precious little thing you are, with ” Not a Care In The World…”

With Kid Marlz about to turn the Big 3-2, with Kid Marlz being, well… you’ll see why he’s called Kid Marlz, and with the hated one’s from up north in town, what other way could a Kid, even this Big Kid, celebrate his birthday ?  It’s always great that even the Magic Castle up on Chavez Ravine ( What Magic Castle did you all think I was talking about ? ) is one where, here goes, a Kid…..This Kid….. The heck, KIDS OF ALL AGES …A Kid Can Be a Kid..

Marlz_Top of Park Before the GameKid N Drei, or My Chemical Bromance ? Uh, I think we’ll stick with Kid N Drei…Hey Kid, the big 3-2 is coming soon kid !!!

After starting off the night at the Big 3-2, we make our way inside The Ravine with Kid Marly Marlz and friends, including his mascot buddies. As for a retired number Dodger theme for Drei, Double D here has two more numbers left to look forward to ( I’ll let you all guess which numbers and yes, Double D ‘s age is up there…) So, how does a ” Kid ” celebrate his birthday at that Magic Castle we call…Chavez Ravine ?

Marlz_Minion Dave Hey Kid, Drei here see’s that you brought back the 2014 Foam Party and your favorite pet Minion Dave

As for the Action on the Diamond against The Hated Ones…

A win over the hated ones always does make a great birthday gift, right Kid ?

And what better way to WALK OFF this recent homestand than with this…

You may have been a little one when The Blue last won the World Series Kid, but this year really could be our year !!! Drei’s only been saying that the last 26 years…

2014 in review… HAPPY NEW YEAR

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 6,200 times in 2014. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 5 trips to carry that many people.

Click here to see the complete report.

2014 was quite a year here on Good Dre L.A., as over 6,200 of you Dodger and baseball fans alike stopped by to glance and read through Drei’s posts on the Dodgers and other things Drei here found of interest, including some of the video links I provided throughout the year. With over 6,200 of you passing through in 2014, you all helped me exceed my 2013 viewership by well over 2,000 views, to which Drei gives a huge SHOUT OUT  and a big THANK YOU to all of you. in 2013, Drei here ranked 96 out of the top 100 MLB Fan blogs, so we can only speculate that Drei’s 2014 ranking will be significantly higher than 96, to which Drei again thanks you all ! What does 2015 have in store for Drei ? Only time will tell, though it’s going to be tough for this amature blogger to top 6,200 views.

2015 Resolutions ?

I’m not one to do any resolutions really. Just too many I don’t even think about. However, The Unbiased MLB Fan has given us his five resolutions for 2015

1. Blog at least once every 5 days. As a blogger who really enjoys delivering content from my POV, finding time to blog, not so much finding something to blog about, is the one difficult aspect for me. Believe me, I always have a topic or few that I never get around to. Right now, my goal is at least one a week…

2. Post 100+ blog entries… It is my hope that I can continue this, as this would be an average of a little over 7 posts a month….

3. Get more views than 2014… This probably will be the most difficult of the 5 listed for me to accomplish with other personal agenda’s going on in my life right now. Top 6,000 views ? Certainly not impossible…

4. Go on a 3-post-blogging-streak… Certainly possible at some point during the season…

5. Reply to every comment that is left… Not that I ever get any, but when I do, I am always responsive, if not always prompt, to every comment that you the fan leaves behind. It’s the views from all of you that I really pay more attention to…

Good Dre In L.A.’s Top 5 Views of 2014

So, what posts from Drei caught your attention the most in 2014 ? Here are the top 5…

5. On This Day, August 22, 1965, Marichal vs Roseboro… Looking back at the baseball’s most famous on-field fight. Did you know that Juan Marichal would finish his baseball career in a Dodger uniform ?

4. 10 Years Ago Today, 1/24/2004, The Day Frankie Had Us All Fooled… Looking back at that dubious day in 2004 when Frank and Jamie McCourt took over ownership of the Dodgers

3. First Plastic Bags, Now Ticket Stubs… Ranting over the ban on plastic bags and, get this, NO MORE PAPER TICKETS FOR SEASON TICKET HOLDERS !!!

2.  50 Years Ago Today, Four Lads From Britain Invade America… Celebrating The Beatles 50th anniversary of their arrival here in the U.S., and the MLB parks they would perform at, including Dodger Stadium

1. Welcome To The Dodger Blue Family… Welcoming the OKC and Tulsa to the Dodgers minor league circle, and a flashback to the 4 home run game, as told by… Vin Scully…

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Drei’s Favorite 5 of 2014 ?

5. Team Chemistry Issues, Nothing New Here… At 31-30 on the 1st week of June and 8.5 games behind the Giants, questions about team chemistry we’re raised once again. At the end of June, the Dodgers would tie the Giants atop the NL West…

4. Our Love/Hate Relationship With Matt Kemp … Posted in Mid-July as many of the fans had enough of the Beast Mode, in which I raised the question, Was it really fair to put all the blame on the offensive struggles toward Matt Kemp ? As it turned out, Kemp’s bat was only heating up

3. Drei’s Tales, The Magic of the Rally Pet Minion Dave … One of a several of Drei’s light-hearted posts throughout 2014 this one including Minion Dave, and the magic he would bring on the night the Dodgers would clinch the NL West…

2. Dre’s Baseball Themed Filled Birthday… One of the many baseball themed activities I got to do on the week of my 40th, taking a tour of Dodger Stadium with my little brother, capped off by a walk-off win against the Angels. The Dodger Stadium tour really does make a great birthday gift for that big Dodger fan in your family…

And finally, Drei’s favorite post of 2014

1. Ballparks, Bytes and Bites… A Sunday Fun-Dre at the Park, From the 619… Another one of my light-hearted posts, and my favorite of 2014, giving everyone a first person’s POV of what it was like heading on a baseball road trip with the guys, and on this day, the ballpark and the park, for that matter, made all of us, including this 40 year old here, feel like, well, kids, including Drei’s Bro-Ham… Kid Marly Marlz… as shown making some kids happy with the bubbles  !!!

So, what does 2015 have in store for us ? Do the Bro-Hams go on another road-trip this year ? Do Kid Marly Marlz and Dodger Drei, ( Kid N Drei for those of you who have been paying attention to my posts ) have more Bytes and Bites for you come the 2015 season ? Speaking of The Kid… Hey Kid ! How’ bout a New Year’s greeting for our readers ?

I hope your 2014 was as fun-filled or even more than what Drei here had. What does 2015 have in store for you ? Planning on any road trips this upcoming season ? Check us out at Stadium Journey for your travel tips. While you’re there, also check out the top 100 stadium experiences of 2014, sure to be up for some good-nature debate…

I hope you all have a great 2015 ! What road will you all be traveling this upcoming year ?…

OK, time for Drei here to help you all ring in the New Year. FYI, the kid in this video was not harmed ( Matter of fact, he didn’t even seem fazed…) Here’s to a HAPPY and PROSPEROUS 2015…

Tailgating With Drei ( Trying to, Anyways…)

I’m sure by now many of you have turned your attention to the other major sports.  I’m also sure many of you are also huge fans of the pigskin, be it the NFL, college, or both.  I don’t even doubt that many of you enjoy a good tailgate prior to watching your favorite team do battle among the gridiron.  Many of you probably tailgate every game, while a good many of you may do it on occasion.  Many of you probably have traditional recipes  and gameday rituals as well, from dressing up your area with your favorite teams paraphernalia to preparing that day’s main dish based on that day’s opponent, for example, for an NFL game if the opponent we’re the Philadelphia Eagles, your spread could include anything with a bird or Philly Cheese Steaks, among many countless ideas .

For my most recent tailgate this past Saturday at The Rose Bowl prior to the UCLA-Arizona game, with the U of  A Wildcats in town, I have decided to throw in a Southwest theme ( for Arizona ) along with an Asian influenced theme as well ( A nod to my Asian roots and the heavy Asian-American student population at UCLA….) .  For my Southwest theme, I have prepared a Sonoran Style Chorizo Burger.  Here are the preparation notes, which by the way, was prepped for two people, so the prep may vary.  It’s pretty simple really…

Drei’s Sonoran Style Chorizo Burger

Mix 1 pound of ground beef or pork with some chorizo meat

Add a half to 3/4 packet of chili powder.  I used the New Mexico Style chili powder

Store in your fridge and marinade overnight

Now my notes for my Asian themed bite

Drei’s Coconut Curry Chicken Thighs

For my chicken thighs…

1 can of coconut milk

Approximately 2 tbsps. of coconut vinegar

Curry powder

Coconut flakes

A touch or two of brown sugar

Store in fridge to marinade overnight.

Again, depending on how many are taking part of your tailgate, the amounts and preparations will vary.

20141101_170513

Gettin’ our tailgate on.  Yeah, preferably we’d like a bigger grill, but hey, our miniature Weber would do just fine.  Hey, our Pet Minion Dave has joined us once again.  Minion Dave has sure got around with us this past year.  He wasn’t quite so mischievous this time around.  Perhaps it was because he wasn’t around his favorite mischievous Uncle Marly Marlz this time…

Marlz_Dave2 Dave and Marlz.  Two of the most mischievous characters you’ll ever encounter at a sporting event…

Lesson’s learned by Drei.  OK, who doesn’t love bacon with their burgers ?  If you must throw some bacon on the grill if cooking with charcoal,  you may want to put some aluminum foil on top of your grill .  When grilling your bacon, always monitor the progress .  You don’t want to cause a grease fire thus possibly burning anything else that may be on your grill.  Also, when grilling the burgers, before placing on the grill, I also discovered it be best to flatten the burgers out as much as possible if anything it not only  reduces cooking time but is also much easier to grill than grilling one big thick burger, per se.

As for my Coconut Curried Chicken Thighs, they could not have come out any juicer than I could have imagined.  So, how’d the burger turn out ?

SONORA BURGER

Here it is.  My Sonoran Style Chorizo burger, topped with jack cheese, bacon, black fiesta beans, roasted Anaheim Chile, and guacamole.  After a couple of tries, this burger actually turned out allright.  Also , as a side, I added a raspberry blue-cheese spinach salad as well .

So these are the highlights from Drei’s tailgate and the UCLA/UofA game.  To be honest, it wasn’t one of my best efforts and Drei could have done a few things different, but hey, I still enjoy a good tailgate . Ideally, you should have more than 2 people with you at a tailgate.  Even though you may not try to, with only 2 at a tailgate, you always end up having more than you really need.  Got any tailgate tips you’d like to share ?  Need any tailgate tips and recipes ?  You may want to check out this Pro Football Cookbook .  Planning on hitting the road to see your favorite team ?  Check us out at Stadium Journey for your travel needs, including those for UCLA and USC football.

Next up, the one thing that divides all Dodger fans this time of year. The annual football game between USC vs UCLA…
